Hi, I’m Dustin, the founder of STERNGLAS.

It all started in a watchmaking factory. When I was exactly 16 years old, I worked part-time as a student in a small watchmaking factory in Münster. I strapped watches, carried boxes, and stocked shelves. The close contact with the watches had a lasting impact on me and sparked my passion for classic timepieces. I was so excited about the watches that I couldn’t stop talking about them to my friends and family.

But there was a problem: The watches I loved so much were unaffordable—even later, as a 21-year-old student, they remained out of my reach. This led me to a crucial question:

Why aren't there any watches with a beautiful, timeless design at an affordable price? I couldn’t shake this question!

That’s when the idea was born: I would develop my own minimalist watch, inspired by the simple Bauhaus design, with good quality at a fair price. A watch that’s accessible to everyone and made from high-quality materials. My family and friends were excited, but at the same time, they thought I was crazy—after all, there were already countless traditional watch brands.

Despite all my doubts, I didn’t give up. For months, I spent countless nights sketching, discarding, and redesigning my ideas. I poured all my passion into my own watch, but my perfectionism held me back. In the meantime, well-known brands passed me by, and I saw my dream slipping away. Devastated, I put my idea on hold.But the thought of my own watch never left me. I started my first job, but I didn’t find fulfillment there.

At the beginning of 2016, I made a decision: now or never!

I gathered all my courage, energy, and savings. With the support of my family and friends, I developed the final STERNGLAS design, created the logo, and organized everything for the big moment. There was no turning back.
Doubts followed me every step of the way, but I persevered and didn’t let my perfectionism stand in the way anymore.

In October 2016, the moment finally arrived: through the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter, I presented our first timepiece—and the response was overwhelming! In no time, I raised €16,000 for the first batch of watches. My dream had finally come true. When the first watches reached the community, I was incredibly proud and grateful.

Today, eight years later, STERNGLAS has established itself as a solid presence in the watch world. We are now a team of 15 watch enthusiasts and offer an exciting selection of quartz and automatic models in various color options on our online shop. You can now find our STERNGLAS timepieces at over 450 jewelers!

Our mission remains unchanged: to create beautifully designed watches in the simple Bauhaus style and of the highest quality at a fair price. And we do this with full passion and always in close contact with you and the STERNGLAS community!
